Weight survey results to a target distribution
Choose a weighting question, set population shares, and understand missing groups and effective sample size.
Choose a question and known targets
Weighting is a Pro analysis feature. Pick a single-choice, dropdown, or single-select image question with at least two options. Enter a target percentage for every option; targets should sum to 100%, and at least two need a positive share. Save weighting to apply it.
Use a documented target distribution for the population you intend to describe. For example, a group that makes up 25% of your sample but 50% of your target population receives a weight of 2 when all target groups are represented. This feature weights on one question; it does not fit several demographic margins at once.
Check coverage and effective sample size
A group with a positive target and no respondents cannot be recovered by weighting. Plumeform lists unreachable groups and rescales the remaining targets. Respondents who skipped the weighting question keep a weight of 1.
Effective sample size describes how uneven weights reduce the information in the sample. It is not an extra respondent count. Check it along with the raw sample size and group weights, especially when filters leave only a few people in a target group.
Know which numbers change
Supported descriptive percentages, averages, and NPS use the weights. Counts stay raw. CSV and XLSX exports include a Weight column; weighting does not rewrite or delete the original answers.
Significance tests and configured research analyses remain unweighted. Report the weighting question, target source, exclusions, unreachable groups, and effective sample size with weighted findings. Use Turn off in the Weighting card to return to unweighted summaries.
