Collect

Set survey dates, limits, and timers

Schedule collection, limit responses, prevent repeat participation, and allow enough reading time.

Schedule the collection window

Open Settings → Fielding → Limits. Opens at and Close at use your device’s timezone. Check that timezone before scheduling a study with collaborators elsewhere. You can publish before the opening time; early visitors see an opening notice and early submissions are refused.

A response cap belongs to one survey. Your workspace’s monthly response allowance applies across its surveys. Check both before recruiting. Closing a survey or reaching a limit can prevent someone who already opened it from finishing, so allow time for participants still in progress.

Choose the right duplicate check

One response per browser remembers a completed response in browser storage. Clearing storage or using another browser can bypass it. It is a convenience check, not proof of identity.

One response per panel participant checks the panel ID carried in the survey link on the server. Use the panel launch link with the expected participant parameter, and test the link with your recruitment platform. Quotas limit eligible completions in a segment; they do not replace duplicate protection.

Give participants enough time

In a question’s Research tools, Time lock sets a minimum wait of 1–600 seconds before continuing. Use it with the question or material participants need to read, and test the full page on a phone with the longest translation.

A timer only establishes elapsed time. It cannot prove that someone read or understood the material. Use clear follow-up questions and review timing alongside other quality signals. Keep timer expectations consistent with the duration and payment described in your study information.

Decide whether answers can be revisited

In Settings → Collecting → Before submission, you can show a review screen before the final submit. Participants can inspect their answers and, when back navigation is allowed, return to edit them.

Let respondents go back is enabled by default. Turn it off if your study requires participants to keep their first answers. Preview both settings together, especially for quizzes, branching paths, and controlled-exposure tasks; a review screen should not promise editing that the study prevents.
