Repeat a page for selected answers

Ask the same questions for each choice selected earlier, insert the item label, and keep stable columns in your results and exports.

Start with a checkbox question

Repeated groups are useful when someone needs to rate several products, services or locations. Ask which items they used, then repeat a later page for their selected choices. A respondent who selects Reports and Billing gets two sets of follow-ups; an unselected item gets none.

Publishing repeated groups requires Pro. The source can have up to 20 choices, with a maximum of 180 expanded questions across the survey. A long source list multiplied by a long repeated page can reach that limit quickly.

Configure the repeated page

Create the source question before the page you want to repeat. Use clear choice labels: respondents will see them again in the follow-ups.

  1. 1Add a checkboxes question and enter the items people can select.
  2. 2Create a later page containing the follow-up questions.
  3. 3Select that page and choose Repeat for selected choices, then select the source question.
  4. 4Insert {{item}} in the repeated question wording, such as How easy was {{item}} to use?
  5. 5Preview with one selection, several selections, and no selections if the source is optional.

Keep routing outside the group

Keep file uploads, branching rules, quotas and ending conditions outside the repeated group. Use an ordinary page before or after it for those controls. Do not put a repeated page inside another repeated page.

Required follow-ups apply to the selected items. If a respondent changes the earlier selection, revisit the path in preview and confirm that only the remaining selected items are shown.

Read the exported answers

Each source choice has stable question columns in results and exports. Compare the same item across respondents rather than treating the first repeated page as the same item for everyone. A blank for an unselected item is not a zero rating.

Published versions preserve the questionnaire used for each response. If you revise source choices after collecting data, inspect the version and item columns before combining the datasets.
