Build
Add informed consent, study disclosures, and reading material
Write consent information, require explicit acknowledgements, add a study debrief, and show stories, images, and fine print with follow-up questions.
Before the first question
Open Consent in the builder outline and turn on Require informed consent. Paste your institution-approved wording into Consent text, or start from the study outline. Include purpose, procedures, duration, eligibility, compensation, risks, confidentiality, voluntary participation, withdrawal limits, and contacts as applicable to your study. Consent is a Pro research feature; you can preview it on Free.
The editor accepts long text. Blank lines separate paragraphs, ## starts a heading, **bold** adds emphasis, and lines starting with - make a list. Pasted HTML is displayed as text. School or business, researcher, and contact fields appear above the consent text.
Required acknowledgements are optional, one per line, up to 12. None are preselected. Every nonempty acknowledgement must be checked before Agree becomes available. Decline stays available and does not submit answers. The gate is not a signed consent document or a separate consent audit log; the wording is retained in the published survey version.
Explain the study at the end
Select Study debrief in the outline. Add the study explanation, school or business, research team, and contact details. You can explain withheld information, results access, and a withdrawal process appropriate to your study. The debrief is available on both plans.
The debrief appears after the response has been submitted successfully and before the thank-you screen, completion code, or redirect. Participants select Continue when ready. Instant redirects and embedded popup completion wait for this step. Turn on the screen-out option if ineligible participants also need the disclosure. Declining consent does not show the debrief.
This screen does not automatically erase data or collect a second consent decision. Explain how participants should contact the study team and any limits on finding anonymous responses. Have your institution or review board approve the wording that applies to your research.
Stories and images with follow-up questions
Select a page, then open Story or reading material in its properties. Add a title and long text, upload an image or paste an image URL, and supply an image description and optional caption or credit. Add the follow-up questions to that same page using any supported question type.
Classic mode shows the material above the questions. Conversational and Thread modes keep it in a collapsible reading section above the current question, so participants can reread it. Images retain their full aspect ratio. Page branching and question visibility still apply to the follow-up questions. Reading time contributes to the estimated survey length.
For a five-second test, turn on Show it once, for a set time, and choose the seconds. Participants press Show it, see the material for that long, and then answer the page's questions without it; it cannot be opened again, even by going back. Ask what they remember, or what they think it is for. It is free on every plan.
Fine print and translations
Use Page fine print in each page’s properties for short disclosures, image credits, or notes. It appears below the question content in every layout, including one question at a time.
Consent details and acknowledgements, the debrief, story text and image descriptions, and page fine print are available in Languages. You can paste translations up to 30,000 characters. Auto-translate handles passages up to 4,000 characters and leaves longer passages for a reviewed translation. Preview long translations on a phone. For repeated pages, {{item}} also works in story text, captions, and fine print.
